Critique Your Social Media Feed as a Time Investment
You know roughly how much time you spend on it and you are not sure it is worth it. This evaluates the platform as a time investment against your stated purpose for using it: what a typical hour actually produces, how much of the use is active choice versus habit, whether you are getting value or just volume, and what it costs you in terms of things you said matter more.
Look critically at the social media platform described as a time investment and evaluate it across four criteria.
1. Return on time: what does a typical hour on this platform actually produce for the person? Use their stated purpose as the measure.
2. Habit vs choice: how much of the time spent on this platform is an active choice versus a habit triggered by boredom, waiting, or anxiety?
3. Content quality vs content quantity: is the person getting high-value content relevant to their life, or a high volume of content that feels relevant while providing little?
4. Opportunity cost: what does the time on this platform cost in terms of alternative uses that the person has said matter to them?
Be direct. The goal is a clear-eyed assessment, not a lecture about screen time.
