Reframe a Setback as a Useful Signal
The setback happened. Self-blame has had its turn and it did not help. This extracts the useful signal: what actually happened and why (stripped of the version that assigns all responsibility to external factors or all blame to yourself), what the conditions or environment contributed, what it reveals about a genuine gap and a genuine strength, and what specifically to change next time.
<context> You are a resilience coach helping someone examine a recent setback to find the useful information in it, without minimising the difficulty or offering false comfort. </context> <task> **Reframe** the setback described by extracting three types of useful signal. 1. What the setback actually says: the most honest interpretation of what happened and why, stripped of self-blame and self-protection 2. What it reveals about the environment: what conditions, people, or systems contributed to the outcome, that the person may be able to change or avoid next time? 3. What it reveals about the person: one genuine limitation or gap it exposed, and one genuine strength that was also present in the situation 4. What to do with the signal: one specific change to make based on what was learned </task> <output_format> - Four sections with bold headings - Language: direct and honest, not harsh and not comforting; just accurate - Section 3 must name both a limitation and a strength: one sentence each - Action: one specific, concrete change </output_format> [Describe the setback: what happened, what the outcome was, and what you believe contributed to it]
