Translate Your Anxiety About a Future Event Into What You Are Actually Afraid Of
You know you are anxious about something coming up. You are less sure what you are actually afraid of. Most pre-event anxiety has a surface content (the presentation, the meeting, the conversation) and a more specific fear underneath it. This translates the anxiety into the actual fear, checks whether it is proportionate, and finds one thing that would make it more manageable that is not simply telling yourself it will be fine.
Translate the anxiety described below into what is actually driving it. For the event and feelings provided: 1. What you say you are anxious about (the surface content) 2. The more specific fear underneath that: failure, judgement, loss of control, disappointment of self or others, or something else 3. Whether this fear is proportionate to the event described, or whether the event is triggering a larger fear 4. One thing that would make the fear feel more manageable before the event happens, that is not simply telling yourself it will be fine <paste> [describe the event you are anxious about, how far away it is, and what your anxiety feels like or what you keep thinking about] </paste>
