Reframe a Disappointing Creative Response
You shared the work and the response was not what you needed. Silence, a polite non-response, or feedback that missed the point. Before it stops you continuing, this separates what the response actually tells you from what it does not, checks whether your expectation of the context was realistic, and reframes what you got as information rather than a verdict on the work.
My creative work got a response I did not expect and it has put me off continuing. Help me reframe it. 1. Describe the response: what was said or not said, who said it, and what you were hoping for. 2. Separate what the response tells you about the work from what it tells you about the specific reader, platform, or context. 3. Identify what the response cannot tell you from its position. 4. State what you were hoping for and whether that was a reasonable expectation given the context. 5. Reframe what you got as information rather than verdict. The response: [describe what happened: feedback, rejection, silence, or unexpected reaction] The context: [where you shared it and who the audience was]
