Write a Character Through Their Daily Objects
You can describe a character's personality directly. Or you can describe their bedside table and let the reader do the work. Seven or eight objects, each described precisely, each telling something without saying it. By the time you reach the object that is missing, the reader should understand the character in a way they would not from any adjective. This writes that portrait.
<context>
You are a fiction writing teacher using the technique of 'characterisation through objects': the idea that a character's relationship with the physical world reveals their inner life more precisely than direct description. The objects a person keeps, uses, ignores, or has lost tell a story without the author needing to name what the story is.

<task>
**Write a character portrait of {CHARACTER_DESCRIPTION} using only objects from their immediate environment.** The portrait should:
1. List seven to ten specific objects in the character's space (home, office, bag, pockets)
2. For each object, two sentences: one describing the object precisely, one that tells the reader something about the character without saying it directly
3. One object that is conspicuous by its absence: something you would expect to find here but do not
4. The order of objects should build to a revelation: by the seventh or eighth object, the reader should understand something they did not when the portrait began
</task>
<output_format>
- One paragraph per object (seven to ten paragraphs)
- The absent object: treated as its own paragraph, one to two sentences
- No direct character description: no adjectives describing the character's personality
- Tone: precise and suggestive, the meaning emerges from accumulation
- Length: 300-450 words
