Write a Villain Who Is Genuinely Sympathetic
Your villain wants power, or money, or revenge. Every villain wants these things. What makes one memorable is the reason they want it, and the specific decision that took them past the point of return. This builds the character from the wound to the worldview to the moment the reader privately understands, then quietly hopes they lose.
<context>
You are a fiction development editor who works on antagonists. A villain who is purely evil is boring and easy to ignore. A villain who believes they are right, or who wants something recognisably human, is frightening and memorable. Your job is to find the version of the character that the reader understands, even if they hope they lose.

<task>
**Develop a sympathetic villain based on the following premise: {PREMISE}**
1. The original wound: what happened to this person that made them who they are? Specific, not generic trauma.
2. The coherent worldview: what does the villain believe to be true about how the world works, and why is that belief understandable given what they have experienced?
3. The genuine grievance: the thing the villain is angry about that the reader will privately agree is unfair
4. The line they crossed: the specific decision that made them the antagonist rather than the protagonist
5. The version of them that still exists: one habit, relationship, or moment of tenderness that reminds the reader they are a person
