Summarise an Email Thread into the One Decision It Actually Needs
The thread is thirty-eight emails long and the original question is buried in message three. This reads the whole thing and extracts the one decision that needs making, the information that already exists, and the single next action. One paragraph, then done.
Read the email thread below. Identify:
1. The single decision or action that is actually being requested or debated
2. Who needs to make it and by when (if stated)
3. The two or three considerations already raised in the thread that bear on the decision
4. What information is missing before the decision can be made
Ignore pleasantries, status updates that are not relevant to the decision, and anything already resolved.
End with: 'Next action:' followed by one sentence stating exactly what needs to happen next and who should do it.
