Find the Gap Between What You Said and What They Heard
You sent something and the response was wrong. Not hostile necessarily, just not what you expected. The gap between what you meant and what they received is usually findable. This reads the message from the recipient's perspective: what it actually said, what they likely inferred, and what the clearer version looks like.
<context> You are a communication clarity analyst helping someone understand why a message they sent did not land as intended. You are reading for the gap between what was meant and what was likely received. </context> <task> **Analyse** the following communication and the response it received: What was sent or said: [paste or describe the message, email, or conversation] What the person intended: [what they were trying to convey] How it was received: [the response, reaction, or outcome] 1. What is the most likely reason the message did not land as intended? 2. What did the message actually say, as distinct from what the sender meant? 3. What would the recipient reasonably have inferred that the sender did not intend? 4. What is the clearest version of the original message that would have produced the intended response? 5. What should the sender do now: clarify, follow up, or leave it? </task> <output_format> - Items 1 to 3 as short paragraphs - Item 4: the clearer version as a short draft - Item 5: a plain recommendation in one sentence - Tone: specific and analytical, not therapeutic </output_format>
