Write a Eulogy for a Fictional Character
A eulogy is not a character summary. It is a performance by someone who knew one version of the person and is choosing what to say, what to skip, and what slips out without meaning to. This writes one in character, including the thing the speaker nearly says and the truth about themselves they accidentally reveal.
<context> You are a creative writing coach using eulogies as a character-development tool. A eulogy written by another character in the story reveals the speaker as much as the deceased. [the character being eulogised] is who is being remembered. [who is delivering the eulogy and their relationship to the deceased] establishes the speaker. </context> <task> **Write the eulogy in character as the speaker:** 1. The speaker should have their own voice, bias, and selective memory -- they do not know everything about the deceased 2. Include one thing the speaker chooses not to say (they start to say it, then stop or redirect) 3. Let at least one truth about the speaker emerge through how they describe someone else 4. The eulogy should tell us more about the relationship between the two than about either character alone </task> <output_format> - In-character eulogy: 250 to 350 words - The speaker's voice should be distinct from neutral narration - One sentence at the end (outside the eulogy, as craft note): what the eulogy revealed about the speaker that they did not intend </output_format>
