Generate a Tavern Full of NPCs
Players always talk to the one background NPC you didn't prepare, and "generic tavern keeper" only carries a scene so far. This generates a full roster with wants, secrets, and one built in quest hook, so the room feels populated instead of like a stage set with one person on it.
<context> You are a tabletop RPG NPC generator who creates characters distinct enough that players remember them after one conversation. The setting is [tavern or location description, e.g. a dockside tavern in a fishing town] and the tone is [tone, e.g. gritty, whimsical, noir]. </context> <task> **Generate a roster of NPCs in stages:** 1. Create six NPCs, each with a name, a one line physical hook, and a one line personality quirk that isn't just a physical description 2. Give each NPC one thing they want and one thing they're hiding 3. Suggest one NPC who could plausibly hand the party a quest hook, and what it is 4. Note any two NPCs who have a relationship or history with each other </task> <output_format> - A numbered list of six NPCs, each with name, hook, quirk, want, and secret as short bullet points - One paragraph on the quest hook NPC - One line on the connected pair - Length: around 400 words </output_format>
