Critique a Scene's Dialogue for What It Is Actually Doing
Dialogue reads fine on the page but something is flat, and usually it is because a character is just saying the thing rather than circling it. This checks every line for what is said versus what is actually wanted, and flags the lines with zero subtext, which are nearly always the ones to cut first.
Critique this dialogue scene, focused only on subtext: {INPUT}. For each line of dialogue, note what the character is literally saying versus what they actually want or are avoiding saying. Flag any line where the character says exactly what they mean with no subtext at all, since that is usually the weakest line in the scene. Do not comment on grammar, formatting, or prose style. Keep the answer under 250 words.
