Decide Whether to Continue With a Podcast You Have Been Making for Six Months
Six months in and it is not what you thought. The download numbers are not growing the way you hoped, the process is taking more time than you planned, and the initial excitement has worn off. This works through the decision: what you actually have to show for it, whether the original reason still applies, what the obstacle really is, and what the analysis suggests you should do.
You have been making a podcast for six months. The initial enthusiasm has faded and you need to decide whether to continue, change it significantly, or stop. Work through the decision honestly. 1. What do you have after six months? How many episodes, what is the download or listener trajectory, and what do listener responses (if any) tell you about what is landing? 2. Why did you start and is that reason still the primary one, or has the purpose shifted? 3. What is the production cost in time per episode and what else could that time be doing? 4. Is the obstacle mostly creative (you do not know what to make next) or structural (the process has become unsustainable) or motivational (you are tired of it)? 5. Decision: what does the analysis actually suggest? Commit to another six months with specific changes, pivot the format or focus significantly, or stop and do something else with the creative energy?
