Reframe a Piece of Creative Work That Did Not Find an Audience
You made it and put it out and it did not go the way you wanted. This is the most common creative experience and the one most likely to stop the next project. This reframes it: what actually happened versus what you hoped for, which part of the gap is yours to address and which is not, what the work produced that was not the audience response, and what it teaches you about the next one rather than this one.
You made something and put it out. A book, a film, an album, a gallery show, a creative project of any kind. It did not find the audience you hoped for or expected. Reframe the experience. Work through: 1. What did you make and what were you hoping for? Be specific about both. 2. What actually happened? Not what it felt like emotionally, but the actual result: who engaged with it, what they said, what the data showed. 3. What is the gap between what you hoped for and what happened? Which part of that gap is within your control in future, and which part is not? 4. What did the work produce that was not the audience response? Skills developed, relationships formed, clarity about what you want to make next. 5. Reframe: what does a work that did not find its audience teach you about the next one, rather than about this one?
