Reframe Feeling Stuck at Your Current Level After Years of Practising a Skill
You have been doing this for years and the improvement has levelled off. It might be a ceiling. It is more likely that your practice has quietly become comfortable repetition rather than deliberate work at the edge. This reframes the plateau: what the current practice actually involves, which part you consistently avoid, and what genuinely deliberate practice would look like for your specific pattern of strengths and weaknesses.
You have been practising a skill for years and you are no longer improving noticeably. The plateau is real. Reframe it. Work through: 1. Name the skill and the level you are at. What does competence at this level look like in practice? 2. What does your current practice look like week to week? How much of it is repetition of what you already do versus deliberate work at the edge of your ability? 3. When did you last work on the parts of the skill that are hardest for you rather than the parts that feel good? What is the part you consistently avoid? 4. Is the plateau a signal that you have reached your ceiling, or a signal that the practice has become comfortable rather than challenging? 5. Reframe: what would "deliberate practice" of this skill look like if you were designing it for someone who had your exact strengths and weaknesses?
