Critique Your Creative Routine for What It Is Actually Producing
Creative routines can serve two different masters: the work, or the person doing it. A routine that produces a comfortable volume of acceptable output is not the same as one that produces the work you are actually capable of. Most creative routines gradually drift toward comfort. This critiques yours to find where the drift has happened.
I have a creative routine but I want to critique whether it is producing the work I actually want to make, or just producing the comfortable version of it. My creative routine: [describe what you do, when, for how long, and what it typically produces] What I intend to make: [describe the creative work you are trying to produce] The gap between what I intend and what the routine is producing: [describe honestly] Critique my routine: identify whether it is structured to protect the work or protect me from the work, whether the conditions I have created are the ones that produce my best creative output or the ones that feel safe, and what one change would bring the routine into closer alignment with the work I actually want to be making.
