Critique a Process You Own for Hidden Inefficiency
Processes that have been running for a while accumulate steps that made sense once and no longer do, handoffs that nobody has questioned, and outputs that are produced but not used. The person who owns the process is often the last to see this because they are too close to it. This forces a critique from the outside.
I own a recurring process at work and I want to critique it for inefficiency that I have become too close to see. The process: [describe what it is, how often it runs, who is involved, and what it produces] How it currently works, step by step: [describe the sequence as honestly as you can, including the parts that feel clunky] The pain points I already know about: [describe the parts you know are not working well] Identify: the steps in this process that are most likely adding time or effort without adding value, the dependencies or handoffs that create the most friction, whether the output the process produces is actually being used and by whom, and the one change most likely to improve the experience of everyone who touches this process. Do not suggest rebuilding the whole thing; suggest the one highest-leverage intervention.
