Critique a Contract or Agreement Before You Sign
Most people sign contracts they do not fully understand. Sometimes that is fine; sometimes it creates a problem that is expensive to undo. This is not legal advice, but it will help you identify the clauses worth asking about, the terms that are unusual for this type of agreement, and whether anything important is missing before you put your name on it.
I am about to sign a contract or formal agreement and I want to understand it better before I do. The agreement: [describe what it is: rental agreement, service contract, employment contract, purchase agreement, or other; and who the parties are] The clauses or sections I am most uncertain about: [paste or describe the specific language you do not fully understand] Any terms that feel unusual or that the other party pushed strongly on: [describe] Tell me: what each clause I highlighted actually means in plain English, whether any of the terms are unusual or potentially problematic for my position, the two or three questions I should ask the other party or a solicitor before signing, and any clause that is conspicuous by its absence (something that should normally be there but is not).
