Reframe Your Biggest Regret as Something Else
Regret is not a problem to be solved, but the way you carry a regret can cost more than the original event. Dismissing it does not work. Returning to it repeatedly does not change anything. This helps you reframe it: not to feel better about what happened, but to hold it in a way that does not actively damage what comes next.
I have a regret that keeps surfacing and I want to understand it differently without dismissing it or pretending it does not matter. The regret: [describe it honestly, including what you did or did not do and what the consequences have been] How I currently think about it: [describe the story you tell yourself about it] What I have tried to do with it: [describe any previous attempts to process or move past it] Help me reframe it: not as something I should feel fine about, but as something I can hold without it holding me. Tell me what the regret is evidence of (including things that are actually worth acknowledging), what the costs of carrying it in its current form are, and a different way of relating to it that is honest about the past without using it to damage the present.
