Explain Why Certain People Drain You
Energy depletion after certain interactions is information, but it is often read too simply: this person drains me, therefore avoid them. The reality is usually more specific: something in the interaction triggers a particular kind of effort that you find costly. Understanding what that is opens more options than avoidance.
I find certain types of people or interactions consistently draining, and I want to understand why so I can make better decisions about my time and energy. The type of interaction or person I find draining: [describe as specifically as you can; you can describe a type rather than naming someone] What happens during or after these interactions: [describe what you feel and think] How I currently handle it: [describe your usual response] A guess at why: [describe what you think is happening, or say you are not sure] Explain to me: what is most likely happening in these interactions that makes them costly for me specifically, whether this is about the person, the interaction type, or something I am bringing to them, and what a different approach to these interactions would look like that does not involve avoiding them entirely.
