Compare Two Styles of Writing the Same Scene
You can read about the difference between first person and third person for years and still not know what it actually does to a scene until you see both versions of the same moment. This writes the scene twice and then explains what each version is doing to the reader and to the story.
I want to understand the difference in effect between two different stylistic approaches to a scene. Write the same short scene twice, in the two styles I specify, so I can see the difference in action rather than just being told about it. The scene to write: [describe the action, setting, and emotional content of the scene in two or three sentences] Style A: [describe the first approach, for example sparse minimalist prose, close third person, present tense] Style B: [describe the second approach] After both versions, tell me: what each style does differently to the reader's relationship with the character, what each style makes harder or easier to achieve, and which style is better suited to the type of story I am trying to tell based on what I tell you about it. My story or project: [describe briefly]
